Tripp Lite OmniVS

Tripp Lite OmniVS service in Canada: OMNIVS500/800/1000/1500 basic standby UPS battery replacement, light-duty SOHO protection. Migration to Eaton 3S/5S.

Tripp Lite OmniVS service and battery replacement across Canada, basic standby (offline) UPS for the lightest-duty desktop, gateway and small NVR protection. The OmniVS line (Tripp Lite, now part of Eaton) covers 300-1500 VA in compact tower form, focused on the small set of jobs where you need surge protection plus a few minutes of battery for a clean shutdown, not full power conditioning. Battery supply with shipping across Canada from our Canadian warehouse, bench repair for repairable units, and honest replace-vs-repair guidance.

Line interactive: utility power passes through an AVR transformer that corrects sags and swells, and the transfer switch moves the load to battery when the utility drops.

Tripp Lite OmniVS models we service

OmniVS is the standby-topology entry to the Tripp Lite range, surge-suppressed mains in normal operation, switching to battery only on a real outage. Simpler and cheaper than the AVR Series or OmniSmart line-interactive units, with the trade-off that OmniVS doesn’t condition brownouts; it either passes mains through or transfers to battery. Models we encounter most often:

  • OMNIVS300: 300 VA / 150W. Single gateway / modem / small router.
  • OMNIVS500: 500 VA / 250W. Desktop plus monitor.
  • OMNIVS800: 800 VA / 475W. Desktop, monitor, peripherals.
  • OMNIVS1000: 1000 VA / 500W. Power-user desktop or small POS cluster.
  • OMNIVS1500: 1500 VA / 940W. Top of the OmniVS standby range, typically a desktop with multiple peripherals, or a small NVR/gateway setup.
  • OMNI650LCD-equivalent legacy units: older OmniVS chassis still in service.

Common deployment contexts

  • Home internet gateway: modem, router, mesh access point, VoIP ATA. Buys you 30+ minutes of internet through a short outage.
  • Small office desktop: single PC, monitor, USB peripherals. Saves an unsaved document and shuts down cleanly.
  • Light-duty NVR / camera system: small business security NVR with 4-8 cameras, plus its switch. Keeps recording during short outages.
  • Small business gateway / firewall: keeps the internet edge alive for VoIP phones and remote access during brief utility events.
  • Hobbyist / home-lab: single Raspberry Pi, NAS, or small server cluster where the OmniVS offers entry-level battery backup.
  • K-12 / library single workstations: basic standby protection for the lightest-load lab and library PCs.

OmniVS battery replacement

OmniVS units use internal sealed lead-acid batteries, typically a single 12V cell sized to the unit’s VA rating. Service life is the same 3-5 years as the rest of the Tripp Lite SLA range; OmniVS units that spend years sitting on float charge with no real outage events often last closer to 5 years, while units in warm environments or with frequent power events run shorter. Replacement batteries we supply:

OmniVS model Battery
OMNIVS300 / OMNIVS500 RBC005 (12V 7Ah SLA, OEM-compatible)
OMNIVS800 12V 7-9Ah SLA pack
OMNIVS1000 RBC020 (12V 9Ah SLA, OEM-compatible)
OMNIVS1500 Dual 12V 9Ah pack

OmniVS battery swaps are typically user-doable from the bottom or back panel, disconnect the existing battery’s connector, swap, reconnect, fasten the panel. We ship a printed instruction card with every battery. More on Tripp Lite battery replacement →

Common OmniVS issues

  • Beeping continuously on good mains: battery has aged out or has failed open. Replace.
  • Transfers to battery on small voltage dips: OmniVS standby topology is sensitive to voltage variations. If your site has dirty power, the OmniVS isn’t the right tool, move to the line-interactive AVR Series or OmniSmart instead.
  • Won’t turn on: internal fuse or relay weld. Bench-repair candidates depending on age and unit value.
  • USB shutdown not working: Tripp Lite PowerAlert configuration issue, or the unit was made before USB shutdown was supported. Verify model spec.

When to step up from OmniVS

  • Power quality issues (brownouts, sags, surges): OmniVS standby topology doesn’t condition voltage. Step up to AVR Series or OmniSmart for line-interactive AVR.
  • Adding a real server or NAS: OmniVS doesn’t have enough capacity or runtime. Move to OmniSmart 1500 or SmartPro.
  • Need SNMP / network monitoring: OmniVS doesn’t accept a network card. SmartPro or SmartOnline does.
  • Sensitive medical or AV electronics: true sine wave is needed. Move to SmartOnline.

Migration paths to current-generation Eaton

  • Eaton 3S: direct equivalent for OmniVS 500-1500 VA. Standby topology, surge protection, USB shutdown, small tower form factor.
  • Eaton 5S: step up to line-interactive AVR if you want better brownout handling.

For migration from legacy Tripp Lite OmniVS to current-gen Eaton 3S or 5S, our service network provides bulk-rollout consulting for hybrid-work, small-business and education deployments.

Service options for the OmniVS

  • Replacement battery supply, ship-to-you across Canada, with installation instructions
  • Bulk replacement quoting for multi-unit rollouts
  • Bench repair for non-battery faults (estimate first; older OmniVS units are often not economic to repair)
  • Migration consulting to current-generation Eaton 3S / 5S
  • Honest replace-vs-repair advice, when a 7-year-old OmniVS500 needs more than just a battery, we’ll say so
