Line interactive: utility power passes through an AVR transformer that corrects sags and swells, and the transfer switch moves the load to battery when the utility drops.

Tripp Lite SmartPro models we service

The SmartPro family is Tripp Lite’s mid-tier enterprise line-interactive UPS, heavier-duty than OmniSmart, less capable than SmartOnline, and the most-deployed Tripp Lite model in Canadian server rooms and IT closets. Common models we see in the field:

  • SMART1500LCD: 1.5 kVA / 900W tower, LCD interface, AVR. Branch-office server, network rack, small phone system.
  • SMART2200LCD: 2.2 kVA / 1.6 kW. Mid-size server room, multi-switch network closet, edge compute.
  • SMART3000LCD: 3 kVA / 2.4 kW. Larger server closets, telecom shelters, distributed sites.
  • SMART3000RM2U: 3 kVA / 2.4 kW in 2U rack form factor. The workhorse rack-mount across enterprise IT, MSP racks and colo white-space cabinets.
  • SMART750RMXL2U / SMART1500RMXL2U / SMART2200RMXL2U: rack/tower convertible models with extended battery pack support (BP-series cabinets).

Common deployment contexts

  • Branch office IT closet: protect the local server, NAS, switch and firewall against the brownouts and surges that hammer Canadian commercial power.
  • Multi-site network rack: retail chains, healthcare clinics, education campuses with distributed IT often standardize on SMART1500RM2U or SMART3000RM2U as the per-site UPS.
  • Telecom / fiber huts: small carrier-edge sites where the SmartPro buys 10-20 minutes of runtime for graceful shutdown or generator transfer.
  • Industrial edge compute: manufacturing PLCs, SCADA workstations, mining and resource sites where the SmartPro protects control systems from line transients.
  • MSP / managed-service racks: datacenter colo cabinets where each customer rack gets its own 2U-3 kVA UPS for board-level isolation.

SmartPro battery replacement

The single most common service request on the SmartPro is battery replacement. Tripp Lite SmartPro UPS systems use sealed lead-acid cartridges with a typical 3-5 year service life, shorter in warm or ventilation-poor environments. Tripp Lite’s replacement-battery numbering follows the RBC pattern (different SKUs from APC, despite the name overlap):

SmartPro modelReplacement battery
SMART1500LCD (battery-door versions)RBC1500 (two 12V 9Ah batteries, 24V)
SMART1500LCDTRBC51, two per unit (each a single 12V 9Ah battery)
SMART2200LCDRBC52 (a single 6V 12Ah battery; confirm how many your unit holds)
SMART3000RM2U / SMART2200RMXL2U / SMART1500RMXL2URBC94-2U (four 12V 9Ah batteries, 48V)
SMART1500RMXL2Ua (“a” revision)RBC93-2U (three 12V 9Ah batteries, 36V)
SMART750RMXL2URBC68 (extended-runtime variants)
Extended-runtime BP packsBP24V36 / BP36V15 / BP48V60RT

We supply OEM-compatible cartridges across Canada and offer ship-to-you (with installation instructions for the front-bezel swap) or full on-site service including disposal and a written test report. More on Tripp Lite battery replacement →

Common SmartPro issues

  • “Replace Battery” LED on the front panel: sealed lead-acid cartridge at end of useful life. Order the matching RBC and swap during a quiet window.
  • Self-test failure after a recent battery swap: run a manual calibration cycle from the front panel; force a deep discharge under load to recalibrate runtime estimation.
  • Beeping on battery with no apparent outage: line voltage is brown enough to trigger AVR fallback. Check upstream feed quality and consider relocating loads.
  • Communication-lost in PowerAlert: USB or serial cable, or in some cases an unresponsive WEBCARDLX network card. We service WEBCARDLX configuration and replacement.
  • Overload alarm: actual load has crept past the 80% safe-running threshold. Upgrade plan or load redistribution required.

Migration paths to current-generation Eaton

Tripp Lite was acquired by Eaton in 2021, and the SmartPro line is gradually being repositioned within Eaton’s broader portfolio. For sites that need a like-for-like drop-in replacement when a SmartPro reaches end-of-service-life, the natural migration paths are:

  • Eaton 5SC: direct drop-in for 1500-3000 VA SmartPro tower/rack. Similar AVR line-interactive topology, comparable footprint.
  • Eaton 5PX G2: step up for sites that have outgrown the SmartPro’s runtime or want network-card support.
  • Eaton 9PX: when the application calls for true online double-conversion (sensitive equipment, generator-fed sites, hospital IT).

For migration from legacy Tripp Lite SmartPro to current-gen Eaton 9PX, 5PX, or 5SC, our service network provides drop-in consulting, including site survey, runtime sizing, outlet/breaker mapping and rack-mount kit selection.

VRLA batteries in this family typically last 3 to 5 years in a climate-controlled room. Runtime depends on load and age; we quote it from the model and site conditions.
